Homely Style Red Chilli Pickle from Babita’s Kitchen

Red Chilli Pickle is an excellent condiment with any Indian meal. Let us try our hands in preparing this recipe.

  • 250 gms Red Chillies
  • 1 tbsp Ajwain
  • 1 tbsp Cumin (Jeera) Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Methi (Fenugreek) Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Kala Jeera
  • 250 gms Mustard Oil
  • 1/2 Cup Vinegar or Assam Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric (Haldhi) Powder
  • 2 tbsp Salt


  • Wash the red chillies and wipe dry with a kitchen towel.
    Dry the chillies in sun shine for 2-3 days.
  • Now, cut the chillies into small pieces.
  • Heat ajwain, jeera, methi and kala jeera in a pan.
    Now, make coarse powder of the mixture in a grinder.
  • Now, heat oil in a pan.
    Allow the oil to cool down.
  • Add chilli pieces and the masala powder along with turmeric and salt. Mix well.
  • Now, place the pickle in sunshine for a day.
  • In the evening, add either 1/2 cup vinegar or 1/2 cup of Assam Lemon juice. Mix well.
    Transfer the pickle to a air-tight glass jar.
  • Occasionally, place the jar in sunshine.
    Your pickle is ready.


Ensure that pickle is kept away from moisture.
Use dry spoon to serve pickle.
